We regret that the Filby Lands & Conservation Trust's, filbyconservation.website, together with three other village websites have been down since late December. Our web hosts, Hostgator, reported malware in the Wordpress based sites but have been singularly unhelpful in restoring them. As a result we have bitten bullets and elected to rewrite the sites on a different host, Wix.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused, especially to those who have wished to keep up with the latest news from the Trust or check on forthcoming events.

At last, here are the results of all the volunteer hours of work (and worry!). Many thanks again to our wonderful team of Volunteers; for all the hours they’ve spent strimming, hoeing and raking; and thanks also to Thrigby Wildlife Gardens for sponsoring all the really good quality seed for us.
Please go and have a look, just follow the mown path. If you have a dog, please keep it on a short lead to prevent it flattening the flowers.

World Wetlands Day
Held each year on 2nd February we took a bit of artistic licence and celebrated on Sunday 5th to accommodate a wider range of people. Working in partnership with Filby Lands & Conservation Trust we held a “Discovering Wild Places” day based in the heart of Filby.
We planted wildflower bulbs and restored some coppice at the Unitarian Church and a local horticulturalist ran workshops on pruning in the nearby Community Orchard. After lunch there was an opportunity to join a guided walk to Filby Common, a beautiful meadow with wet woodland, reed bed and stunning views over Filby Broad.
We found old reed warbler nests, rabbit and fox skulls, fabulous fungi and saw a graceful Barn Owl hunting over the meadow.
Approximately 25 people attended the walk and a similar number the conservation tasks/workshop.
“We were thrilled with the turn out and hope to get more people involved with the mosaic of community wildlife areas we are managing on the edge of the Trinity Broads.”
Supplementary info:
The Trinity Broads reserve lies in the heart of five villages and we work with these communities to encourage a great understanding and involvement with nature and by doing this create buffer areas, wildlife corridors and refuge habitats in the catchment of the Trinity Broads.
Trinity Broads consist of five interconnected lakes, they are a SSSI and SAC and a drinking water supply for approx. 80 000 homes. They are owned by Essex & Suffolk Water and managed in partnership by Norfolk Wildlife Trust.
I helped set up Filby Lands & Conservation Trust in 2020 when an opportunity arose to purchase some land in the village. With grant aid from ESW we purchased half an acre of arable land and, sponsored by Woodland Trust, planted up the area with trees. We also worked with the church to create a wildlife meadow on the adjacent half acre.
