Wasp Spider (Argiope bruennichi).  - uploaded 20th January

An example was found while during mowing at Church Meadow last August. It's a pretty sizeable and spectacular beast - this one was a female (typically they range from 14 to 17mm - the males are much smaller). It used to be quite a rarity, confined to the south coast, but in recent years it has expanded its range, including colonising Norfolk. It preys mostly on grasshoppers and this one was witnessed catching and eating one!
